Trump Denied Entry to Researcher who Criticized Him

The Trump Administration deported a French researcher who criticized Trump and Musk's policy on scientific research.

Our Analysis

A French researcher, on his way to attend a conference in the U.S., had his phone searched and was deported for having criticized Trump and Elon Musk's funding cuts to scientific research.

This violates the American principle of free speech and hurts both international tourism and business with the U.S. as those entering legally, even for short stays, may find themselves deported or even under FBI investigation – as this researcher was originally threatened with! – for simply criticizing Trump or Elon Musk's policies.

What the "other side" did

Democrats have actually tried to do something like this before, though it's been a long time. As in, we're talking about Truman in the 1940s trying to bar someone from entering for being a communist.

In general, we were unable to find an example of a Democratic administration denying someone entry for having criticized a presidential administration or unelected billionaire.
