Trump Created a Disaster in Yosemite National Park

By rescinding hundreds of job offers for seasonal Yosemite staff and firing many others, the park will be severely short-staffed in its busiest season.

Our Analysis

The last time Yosemite was this short-staffed, due to a 2018 government shutdown in Trump's first term, "...visitors left garbage at scenic viewpoints, brought dogs to ecologically sensitive meadows and other areas where pets were prohibited, drove over curbs, and even defecated on the ground next to locked restrooms," due to a lack of park staff to supervise.

Now, Trump has rescinded hundreds of job offers for seasonal Yosemite staff and fired many others, which will incur similar damages again. It is likely that the damage will be even worse than last time, as the 2018 shutdown only lasted 35 days but this time, the entire peak season will be affected.
