The Trump Administration fired dozens, if not hundreds, from the National Nuclear Security Administration, which manages the US nuclear weapons stockpile, and encouraged the departure of countless others, including many engineers, physicists, and scientists, and those who oversee the agency's over 60,000 contractors.
The agency also maintains sensors globally to track nuclear risk.
The American nuclear stockpile, for obvious reasons, requires extremely strict oversight, so firing these workers quickly, with little thought, demonstrates the Trump Administration's lack of seriousness in dealing with critical parts of our national security.
The Trump Administration, after an outcry, is seeking to rehire some of the fired or departed employees, but whether that effort is successful remains to be seen.
While the world would likely be better off without nuclear weapons, they do exist, and so long as they exist, they need to be properly handled, maintained, and secured.
